Black Elephant Vintners Nicholas Red (Franschhoek) 2015
Intensely dark colour in the glass, sparkly bright fruit aromas of red cherries, raspberries, dried Mediterranean herbs and black pepper. Silky soft, some liquorice and fynbos. Serve ever-so-slightly chilled, and the winemakers recommend decanting in the first 3-5 years after vintage to appreciate it best.

Black Elephant Vintners Amistad Syrah (Franschhoek) 2014
Big aroma of blackcurrants, loads and loads of black pepper, then herbal notes redolent of the Mediterranean: dried garrigue herbs and lavender. Full-bodied, with some spice, but overall a really silky texture and nicely balanced acidity and tannin. Then bang (!) you get hit by thirst-quenching, wet-stone minerality (where did that come from?), some more spice and ripe black cherry on the finish. Very long. Winemakers recommend serving slightly cooler than room temperature decanting in first 3-5 years.
